Welcome to Leadership Sovereignty. I'm your host Terry Baylor along with Ralph Owens. Today we'll discuss identifying distractions such as people, emotions, and the split brain mentality. How what you keep in front of you, you're running towards, how focus is a superpower, and how with focus comes boundaries. Enjoy the show.
Speaker 2:And people can be a distraction. So going back to the whole, you know, who am I getting connected to? Who am I entering relationship to? And let's just say this too, the bible speaks about your emotions. Your emotions can be very misleading.
Speaker 2:You cannot live your life by simply your emotions and what you feel. Once you understand that you have a path and you have a gift that you're being held responsible to develop, you have to make that a priority. Right? The split brain mentality. Focusing on everything but not becoming good at one thing.
Speaker 2:Right? I've been a victim of that before. Where I know that these are the things that I'm supposed to be focusing on but I'm gonna do all these other things. Right? Which prevents me from having the time to focus in on the things that I'm supposed to be very good at.
Speaker 2:Right? And then, always running after whatever looks shiny. That's another that's a distraction. It is strategically created to get you off your path or your destiny so that you can't be great. Because you can't be great if you're not focusing.
Speaker 2:Right? So again, you know, you go back to asking yourself these questions. Is this gonna help me achieve my destiny? Okay. Is this gonna stop me from achieving my destiny and what I'm called to do?
Speaker 2:And if the answer is no, if it's not gonna help me achieve my destiny then it could be a distraction. I mean, thoughts about that too?
Speaker 3:So I'm gonna take this time to do just a little shameless plug. So you guys man follow us on Instagram, follow us on Twitter. We've been bolstering our presence out there and so one of the things we posted last week which was really good says this, what you keep in front of you, you are moving towards.
Speaker 2:That's good.
Speaker 3:Really think about that, what you keep in front of you, you are moving towards. So what am I keeping in front of me? And I'm challenging everybody out there. What I mean by that specifically is what's the first thing you do when you get up in the morning? That's the first thing you're feeding yourself.
Speaker 3:What is it? Do you you know, is it the news? No. We know. What's that?
Speaker 3:Don't bring me no bad news. I caught myself in the gym the other day and getting dressed real quick to get in the pool. And I normally don't stand in front of television and I did, I'm like, oh my gosh, that's going up. It was just, it's okay to be aware but not to be consumed.
Speaker 2:Yep. Absolutely. Absolutely.
Speaker 3:Yes. So I'm sorry. Go ahead, Raul.
Speaker 2:No. No. I was just gonna say if you're good then let's transition into, the the the fourth and final topic. So let's recap. We know you have to identify your purpose and destiny.
Speaker 2:Once that's identified you have to develop that seed. Then you have to identify distractions because they can kill your destiny. And the fourth and final, topic in in this series is focus can become your superpower. So what are some of the benefits of focus? What comes to mind for you Terry when you think about the benefits that you get from the work of putting in focus?
Speaker 3:I believe one of the main benefits of being focused and I'm a step back here real quick too, that will help with that focus is to have a clear vision, have it written down. Give yourself a timeline for that vision. One of the exercises I went through that helps me maintain this level of focus is what do you expect people to say about you when you reach this particular milestone? What do you expect those whom you are serving to say about what it is you're delivering from this vision? How are those who are benefiting from your vision, how are their lives impacted?
Speaker 3:So now we start taking the focus of our vision away from what we're doing and who we are impacting and how those lives are being changed. And that level of attention and detail to what your vision is will help fuel and bring passion to your drive, right? Passion to because there are gonna be some days, man, I'm just being quite honest. Some days they're gonna be not as easy as other days, right? But when you have your vision written down, you can go back to it, that focus that that written vision gives you, it will inspire you.
Speaker 3:You will look at it and say, man, yeah, God gave me this. My mentors are partnering with me or these friends who believe in my vision have sold into me either personally, financially, whatever. And so having it in front of you to revisit like constantly will help motivate and fuel that level of focus. Others will see and be inspired by your level of focus and your pursuit for your vision and your passion.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's good. Good. Something else that comes to mind for me is boundaries. Right? You know, with focus comes boundaries.
Speaker 2:Right? You start to say things like, I'm putting my phone on do not disturb at a certain time. Right? If it's you know, some people will say, oh, what if emergency happens and things of that nature? Ask yourself in the last thirty days how many emergencies have come your way.
Speaker 2:Right? More likely it's not. And you could set up technology to where if someone calls you twice, right? It'll come through or things like that. But you have to set up boundaries so that you can maintain focus.
Speaker 2:Right? You can't say yes to everyone no matter how nice they are or how good of an idea it may be. It could be a great idea but it's the idea for you. Right? Focus sets up boundaries and it becomes the antidote for distractions.
Speaker 2:And to Terry's point, focus becomes the most powerful when it's ingrained in your daily routine. Right? You have to have daily routines that you use to apply focus. You know, you've heard me and Terry talk about, I like to journal in the mornings. Right?
Speaker 2:Because it allows me to write things down and when I write it down in my brain it helps me to focus. This is what gonna do today. Right? Writing down your vision and reviewing it. Saying your daily confessions.
Speaker 2:All of these things aid to focus, which is the antidote for the distractions. And it saves you time that you would normally waste with distractions. Right? Focus is your superpower to help you achieve your destiny.
