Speaker 1:

Welcome to Leadership Sovereignty. I'm your host Terry Baylor along with Ralph Owens. Today we'll discuss what is white space and creating boundaries, the benefit of proactive intentional quiet time, what is the flow mindset, and operating in your God given purpose. Enjoy the show.

Speaker 2:

What do you think Terry?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I want to chime in on something you said Ralph about not saying yes to everything and the boundaries. There's a book that Shamika and I read and it's called Your Best Yes. The book is great because it allows for you to create what we call white space. You need some borders. That white space in our life is where we don't plan anything in those spaces.

Speaker 2:

That's powerful. So

Speaker 3:

and the only reason I mentioned that because the if the brothers get the book, which is fine, you just have to be prepared. It's written. It it just use a lot of scenarios and anecdotes that from a woman's perspective. The concepts of the book are great and that's honestly for me, honestly, that's a personal challenge for me. Ralph knows that man, I'm always doing something.

Speaker 3:

Man, I got games today, I got practice. Okay, then I'm coming, I got a couple meetings. I have to be intentional because that's in my life, in my house growing up, I saw my mom and dad always doing for people, always working, always And so granted that never give up mentality is a great one to have, but you also have to give yourself time for rest and peace. As a matter of fact, again, I'm gonna take another shameless plug here because today we posted the importance of rest and recharging. Right, that's a boundary.

Speaker 2:

It is, It is. It's so so important. I've learned as I've gotten older that because like Terri, I was one that I would fill up my whole day every minute of the day. Proactive, intentional, quiet time is just as important to you achieving your goals as being active. That is the mental space that you get to allow yourself to process.

Speaker 2:

Like, think about it, if you just go from Terry, we talk about this all the time. There have been days where we have meetings all day. Yes. From the beginning to the end, you go from meeting to meeting to meeting to to meeting to meeting. And by the time you get to the last meeting of the day, you'll be like, what are we talking about in meeting two?

Speaker 2:

Exactly. You know, like that. Right? If you don't build in time for white space, for your mind to recharge, for your mind to process, for your creative abilities to chew on the things that you you have. Terry and I talked about how we would be working on technical issues together and we would run into a wall and we just cannot figure it out.

Speaker 2:

And we learned that, okay, this is the point of diminishing return anything we do pass this is not gonna help us. Let's take some time to step away that white space and allow our minds to process. Guess what? Every single time the answer came. It did, it did.

Speaker 2:

We realize man, we didn't realize the subconscious was Yeah.

Speaker 3:

We didn't realize the true power of that experience. Now we get to really express the value of what we experience in those moments because we're not talking like word wouldn't open. No, talking like this entire sand is down. That's right. And there are no patients able to be seen right now.

Speaker 2:

Yes. Yeah. Yeah. You know, where it really became impactful to me is as I continue to study the Bible as an adult, I started looking at Jesus. Now this is God walking in the flesh.

Speaker 2:

You know how many times He pulled away from everybody to go pray? He needed that. He was the greatest example of a human being for us. Who am I to think that I could just run all day, sleep, get up and do the same thing again and not need that same time? Right?

Speaker 2:

We need that time. We need that time to pray. We need that time to hear from the Holy Spirit. We need that time to process. Right?

Speaker 2:

So that we can make good thoughtful decisions and actions. So again, focus can be derived as boundaries, which to your point, Terri, definitely can be quiet time, intentional quiet time. Try to build it in my day every day.

Speaker 3:

It's critical, it's critical, right? Because just think of it this way, right? If you're working out, those of us who have embarked upon that physical aspect, that physical domain, and we talk about those domains that need to be replenished, spiritual, physical, emotional and relational. All those domains need white space. And so just think about it from a physical standpoint, you go out, you do a heavy workout, you do a long run, You're not gonna come the next day and do that same heavy workout in that long run because your muscles need time to rejuvenate.

Speaker 3:

And so even taking it a step further, something that I've recently started doing this year with my oldest son because he has been working out really hard. We've instituted ice baths and you're talking about a revolutionary experience. Oh man, it is nothing like it. I mean, you can have complete soreness and stuff going on, man, after being in that ice bath ten minutes, it was amazing what it did to the body and all the things that occur physiologically. There are even psychological benefits of taking an ice bath that after studying it taps into the same type receptors that the opioids and all those things tap into.

Speaker 3:

The level of refreshing that you get, that's a very natural experience. And so when we learn how to replenish and renew in the ways that God has designed for this engine to be renewed and refreshed, man, you can get maximum output out of it. And so I'm gonna dovetail into another small piece of that. Part of that replenishing and those boundaries also has to do with what we are feeding into this machine. Because all of that is a compound effect.

Speaker 3:

And so I'm gonna hit on the last hashtag whenever I'm posting is the flow mindset. I used to say grind mindset. I'm not grinded anymore, I'm flowing. Life is gonna be what I mean flowing in that I'm gonna be in divine purpose for my life, does that mean that there won't be obstacles? No, but it will mean that I can flow through those obstacles because I'm doing all the things to define my purpose, which is aligned with my vision that then I can carry out from a day to day practical aspect right?

Speaker 3:

Where I can start to see the residual outcome of who am I? What am I designed to do? In what timeframe is this bigger picture gonna happen? Okay, what are the little things along the way that tie into the vision? So now I'm just, I'm flowing.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's good, that's good. It's great perspective, Great perspective. So there you have it. How, distractions can be a destiny killer. And just a summary recap, we identified a purpose and destiny.

Speaker 2:

We identified that we need to develop that seed once we understand what it is. We talked about the dangers of distractions and how focus can become your superpower. Guys, we just want you to become better, you know, as we go forward. Hope that you enjoyed, this podcast and got some content that will help you on your day to day. And we look forward to the next time.

Speaker 2:

Terry, any closing thoughts?

Speaker 3:

Amen. Flow.
