Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Leadership Sovereignty Podcast. I'm your host, Ralph Owens, along with Terry Bailey. In today's episode, we'll touch on topics such as the power of presentation and how you show up, the role enthusiasm has in your everyday life, and the little self versus the big self. Enjoy the show.

Speaker 2:

You know, Ralph, we've been in those power plants. Right? See how those turbines work? Man, all that energy that's being produced. If the right transport isn't there, in order to transfer that from the energy generation, from the plant to the grid, if the right infrastructure is not in place, then some stuff's going to blow up.

Speaker 2:

So guys, just understand that the energy that you're operating in, Ralph, you got one heading here, it says, fake it till you make it.

Speaker 1:

That's right. Everybody's heard that one. And you know, just one other point about enthusiasm is, when you're enthusiastic, you also influence the perception of others about you. Right? So it definitely is a tool.

Speaker 1:

Not so much about being fake because you wanna be genuine in your enthusiasm. But being able to turn it on and be the brightest thing in the room. Right? And show that energy to Terry's point, that energy attracts other energy.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. And here's the thing guys, it's growth. And there are times just being transparent where I have events, I have meetings and I may not be at a 100, but because I'm intentional, trying my best to be intentional, I'm like, all right, Terry, all right, let's get your game face on, here we go. Be the best version of yourself that you can be. And that's really all we're really saying.

Speaker 2:

It's just be the best version of yourself because again, those interactions, people are Let me tell this story. So I was on a coaching call this week and what's interesting is there was an individual on the call and whenever I So we're all on video and on this coaching call, we are encouraged to be on video. And so, we've talked about this in the past. I use video as a technique to monitor and regulate myself when I'm on these meetings. I'm not looking at everyone else in the meeting, I'm looking at myself.

Speaker 2:

So if something's happening, how am I reacting to it? I was on a call yesterday and received some information and I'm looking at kind of glancing at everyone about the information, then I'm looking at myself and I'm like, okay, let me make sure how I'm presenting myself in receiving this information. Because I wanna make sure that I'm portraying the right attitude around what's being given at this point. So on this coaching call, I couldn't figure it out. And I'm like, why does this guy have the back background that he has, the virtual background?

Speaker 2:

I mean, it's complex, man, all these colors and he's actually morphed into the background and he's way far back in the background and I can't figure it out because the guy is extremely smart, right? He's been in business for a while. You know, he's a mentor. Quite honestly, some of the things that he's doing, I'm looking to, get some information from him. But I can't figure it out.

Speaker 2:

I can't figure it out. Well, through one of the exercises we were going through, come to find out the individual doesn't particularly like being on video. I'm like, Oh, that makes sense now. So the energy that he was portraying, although when he spoke it was powerful, it was direct, it was influential, that didn't match the image that we were seeing. So I was getting conflicting information.

Speaker 2:

I'm getting great data based on what you do, but then I'm looking at you and I'm trying to get that other level of confidence, right? Because here's what we know. What is it? 90% of all communication is nonverbal. Well, I was having a tough time seeing the guy.

Speaker 2:

And so that translates though into enthusiasm. Right? There was a level of his communication that wasn't matching his verbal. And so I was getting a mix. I'd never really experienced that before.

Speaker 2:

I was trying to figure it out because my you can see something, you hear something and you just know that things aren't aligned and you know it's not hitting you the right way. I didn't understand what was happening though until we hit that moment. And so we walked through that, we talked through it as a group, but yeah, so that enthusiasm shows in a lot of different ways. It's not just in verbally and what we're saying, right? It's our physical presentation.

Speaker 2:

It's how we Honestly, it's how we are or actually rather, it's how we are engaging. Ralph, what do you think about that?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, no, absolutely. Your enthusiasm shows through even if it's just hearing a voice. Sometimes they tell you when you are possibly on an interviewer, wanna be enthusiastic, smile while you talk. Right? Because people can they can hear it and they can feel it.

Speaker 1:

Right? That enthusiasm shows through in all types of different mediums. From phone calls to videos, definitely in person. Right? You wanna be the bright shining light, you know, in the conversation.

Speaker 1:

You don't wanna be the dull, darky, you know, dreary, you know, type person in the conversation because that transmits something too. Right? So, you know, remembering that enthusiasm is your tool. It's a tool to help you be successful. Right?

Speaker 1:

So understanding that and it's not about how you feel, it's about being intentional.

Speaker 2:

No, that's a great point. That's a great point, Ralph. And I would say one of the things around enthusiasm, I also believe critical how we get enthusiasm and I'm sorry, but I gotta go to the Bible. This is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it. Now, what does that really do?

Speaker 2:

For me that says, you know what, it doesn't matter my circumstance. No matter how I feel about it today. In order to be what you wanna be, you first have to recognize what you wanna be.

Speaker 1:

That's right.

Speaker 2:

So I wanna be glad in this day.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, absolutely. So many references. The Bible says that David encouraged himself.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

Right? When everything was against him, he encouraged he put on his own enthusiasm. Exactly. He said, I'm gonna go out here and make this happen.

Speaker 2:

Exactly, exactly. So guys, we wanna encourage you. Enthusiasm ultimately, Ralph, I would say is about how you see you, right? So Ralph, you recommended a book for me, man. And I listened to chapter 17 almost every day, almost every day.

Speaker 2:

And chapter 17 of this book is the cash quadrant. And the chapter 17 is named Faith And he opens up with the only person who determines how you feel about you is you. And so he goes on to say, day, I love this, I love this. Every day we have to prepare to overcome our little self because most often our little self has more influence over our big self. That's enthusiasm.

Speaker 2:

Have to prepare every day to go out and overcome my little self. What's the little self? The little self is the one saying you can't do it. You're not supportive enough. It's gonna take too long.

Speaker 2:

You gotta put in the work. That little self is gonna give you 100 reasons why not to. But our big self has to say, you know what? I know the promise. I know what my dream is.

Speaker 2:

I know what my passion is, I know what's been placed in me to serve to the world. So little self, I'm not listening today. That's really what it boils down to. At the end of the day, that's really the crux of am I gonna go out and get the best out of today today? And here's the thing guys, here's the thing Ralph, I'm sure you've listened to your mentors.

Speaker 2:

How many of your mentors books you've read all have the little me? Have they all had to deal with the little me?

Speaker 1:

Every single one of them. Yeah. Yeah. It's just a part it's part of the journey of life. Those who are successful, they overcome it.

Speaker 1:

Those who are not, they succumb to it.

Speaker 2:

So Ralph, I'm gonna go back to something you said. You can hate the game and be stuck or you can win at the game and prosper. It's just part of the game, guys. The little me. Right?

Speaker 2:

And again, I don't want to get too deep spiritual into this, but here's the thing. The world that we live in is a non perfect world because there's an attribute that's in the world that has been working ever since Adam and Eve. And so when that entity or when that element I'll call it came into the world, it impacted everything. Right? So guys, just be prepared every day.

Speaker 2:

Be prepared to overcome little me with your big me. Because the big me is a bad man. Right.
