Welcome and thank you for tuning into the Leadership Sovereignty Podcast. I'm your host Ralph Owens along with Terry Baylor. In today's episode, we'll touch on topics such as the benefit of having balance and using your power to say no, the power of changing the way you look at yourself, and the power of understanding the different roles and choosing to be the creator. Enjoy the show.
Speaker 2:And so, Ralph, what the the the the third is is who? Who's the third person in that?
Speaker 1:The rescuer. The rescuer. So the rescuer also must have a victim in order to exist. They define themselves by saving someone else, but at the same time keeping the victim powerless because they're the ones saving them. The rescuer.
Speaker 1:You know, when I think about this, the only rescuer I have is God. That's it. Right? Now God will use other people to help me along the way, but I don't depend on anybody but Him. Right?
Speaker 1:Because I'm not gonna allow someone else to fix my problem and keep me powerless so that they can continue to leverage me. Again, going back to the way we see ourselves. Right? It's all about the way you see yourselves. And yeah, it may be easy to, to allow a rescuer into your life and to allow them to take away your pain.
Speaker 1:But that was not the way we were designed. We were designed to be creators, to have power, to make things happen. That's why God gave us his word. That's why he gave us the holy spirit. Right, to enable us to be able to do things so that we wouldn't have to be a victim, right, who needs a rescuer.
Speaker 1:What are
Speaker 2:your thoughts on that too? You know what, Ralph? You know, we had a conversation yesterday, right, And I shared this with you because it was I'm a tell you man, these shows are helping me. It's amazing how
Speaker 1:Same here.
Speaker 2:I am just blown away how, man, guys, let's be totally transparent. Am eating on these shows no different than you.
Speaker 1:That's right, yep.
Speaker 2:When we go back and we hear things and we're like, wow, man, I didn't see that like that or just because of what's happening in life. Well, I had a situation where someone reached out to me and there are some things that I'm working on and some things that are happening. And I had to come to the realization that I don't believe I had a capacity to take that on. Although I could probably do it, what would be the expense of stepping into that situation and bringing some counsel. And I called Ralph about it, I said, man, am I off here?
Speaker 2:I need Again, we're going back, this is first episode, being transparent, having, I think I called it at the time a partner, right? Meaning that remember we got five levels of people who are gonna be in your life. You have associates, you have contacts, associates, partners, mentors and mentees. So a partner is that person that you can share your deepest concerns and secrets with to have them give you advice. And I said, Ralph, am I being selfish here?
Speaker 2:And the other thing that I shared with him about it was if I take this on because of the weight of what this person needs assistance with, I guarantee you it would numb me from the things that I'm having to sort through right now. Because you gotta understand what the rescuer is. It's not always a person. Right? It could be an addiction.
Speaker 2:It could be basically the whole ideal of a rescuer really is to numb you from the reality of what you're going through.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's powerful. Yeah, that's powerful, that's powerful.
Speaker 2:And so I guarantee you taking that on, I wouldn't have had the time to sit with my stuff. That I have to really be present for. Or just let's make it super practical. I'm spending so much time pouring into this situation. I don't have time for my wife.
Speaker 2:I don't have time for my kids. I don't have time for my visions, my hopes, my dreams because I'm depositing it all over here.
Speaker 1:That's right. Yeah, balance.
Speaker 2:Yeah and that was an eye opening. And what's funny is we're right in the midst of the show and that's what had me really think about it in that way. Yeah, it's my nature man to wanna help everybody I meet. It's my nature. Believe it's a preacher's kid's nature.
Speaker 2:Sometimes I have to tell my daughter, hey, you can't save everybody, wanna rescue everybody, look, they go pull you under.
Speaker 1:That's right.
Speaker 2:You let them go. Yeah. Give a little advice, if they don't take it, you look and watch, okay. You gotta let that go.
Speaker 1:That's right.
Speaker 2:And so what it does and what I've seen is that doing that guys, it can it can distract you from what is is that present hand.
Speaker 1:Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. So that that essentially is the dreaded drama triangle.
Speaker 1:You have the victim at the top, everything predicates on the victim. You have the persecutor who is persecuting the victim, and then you have the rescuer who is rescuing the victim. All of it starting from the victim mindset and the overarching thing that we're trying to communicate is you are not a victim and you have to see yourself as not a victim. Right? You have to see yourself as not a victim.
Speaker 1:And if we just if we just sealed it with, scripture, the bible says, I am the head and not the tail. Right? As it becomes to a as it pertains to a persecutor, no weapon formed against me is gonna prosper. Right? And the rescuer is God is my rescuer.
Speaker 1:He's given me everything I need to have a great life.
Speaker 2:He is my present help in the time of trouble.
Speaker 1:In the time of trouble. There you go. So you have and and and and so hear me hear me when I say this. Some of us have been listening to those scriptures for fifty years. Well, when when are you gonna apply them to yourself?
Speaker 1:Right? You have to change the way you look at yourself if you want to be able to achieve these great things in life. So Terry, if you're good, we'll move on to the second section. Yes, sir. All right.
Speaker 1:So let's talk about the empowerment dynamic. So each one of these roles is an antidote, for one of the three roles we just talked about. And now we're gonna talk about the creator, which is an antidote to the victim. The creator has has has power. Right?
Speaker 1:Whereas the victim was powerless, that creator has their own power. No matter what happens, they can take whatever comes their way and turn it into something good. They don't look at themselves as a victim and someone doing something to them, but rather they take what comes to them and they use their power to turn it into the expected outcome that they want to see. What were your thoughts about that, Terry?
Speaker 2:Look, man, I am going to walk in the creative power, right? Just like it says, right? I think it's in Hebrews 11 where it talks about, and I'm gonna look it up, make sure I'm giving the right reference, is that we understand that the earth was framed essentially from nothing. Right, we understand that. And so in that same amazing way, we have the same power to declare what our world is gonna be.
Speaker 2:It's as simple as that. There is whatever you say it's gonna be, that's what it's gonna be.
Speaker 1:That's it. That's it. That's it. That's it. Anything is possible to him that believeth.
Speaker 1:Right? God has given us power to create. He was the first creator and he created us in his image to do the same in this domain on the on the earth. So we are first creators And you have to establish that in your mind. I had mentioned, once in a previous, episode that part of my daily routine is I journal in the morning.
Speaker 1:And the very last thing I write in my journal, every single day that I journal is creator, challenger and coach empowerment. Right? I I need I want my mind to see that every day before I get up from the table and go hit the day. Right? To remind myself of who I am and who I'm not.
Speaker 1:Right? I am a creator. I have the ability to create my own situations. My situations are not dictated by what someone else does to me but based on what I do with the power that I have. That is the foundation for it all.
Speaker 1:And any comments, Deter, for me?
Speaker 2:Well, was gonna say man, guys you may feel like this may be a little repetitive. This is so important Because this is, we are doing some deep excavation here, right? Because the things that we're gonna move on to, it's imperative that we get this. It's imperative because mainly or one of the main points is to identify when you see it. And then you will understand, okay, who do I need to be now?
Speaker 2:What role should I play in this? Should I be a creator in this role right now with things that I see going on? Should I be a challenger? Okay, does this call for a coach? So we really wanna make sure, and I just wanna share this too.
Speaker 2:I just pulled up my information. I wanna kind of share and I love this part. It said, and just like you, I'm talking about God, in Genesis chapter one, when the earth was without form and void and in Hebrews eleven and three, by faith we understand that the universe was formed at your command. So that's good, right? At his command.
Speaker 2:How do you command? You got to speak it, right? So that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. I operate in that same power to create infinite good.
Speaker 1:That's it. You have to see yourself as a creator and not as a victim.
Speaker 2:Speak those things that be not
Speaker 1:As though they were. Let the weak say I am strong.
Speaker 2:Take a moment, get in the mirror, you gotta write these down, tell yourself. I am a creator.
Speaker 1:Yes. Yes.
Speaker 2:Come on somebody. Where's the b three?
Speaker 1:Where's the
Speaker 2:b three?
Speaker 1:Take me to B flat. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. And like you said, Terry, because I got a lot of comments about this. What'd you say?
Speaker 1:You said, tell your mind what to think.
Speaker 2:Oh, yes.
Speaker 1:Tell your body what to do.
Speaker 2:And tell your emotions how to feel. You got You to,
Speaker 1:have to. You have to. You are not a wild animal in the jungle who just lives by their emotions.
Speaker 2:And and instinct.
Speaker 1:Not instinct. Not that. We're not that.
Speaker 2:That's that's Guys, look, the goal here is look, man, we coming out of here free.
Speaker 1:That's right.
Speaker 2:We're coming out of here free.
