We always say that pressure reveals a man's true character.

Most professionals were never taught the difference between being smart and being prudent. In this episode, Ja'Quan Lavender — founder of The Prudent Man Leadership Academy — joins host Ralph E. Owens II and co-host Terry Baylor to draw that line clearly and show exactly what it costs when leaders cross it without knowing the difference. Prudent leadership is not a personality trait. It is a practice. And it starts with one deliberate decision.

This is Part 2 of our four-part Prudent Leadership Series with Ja'Quan Lavender. If this is your first episode, start here — and go back to part 1 for the full arc.

In this conversation, Ralph E. Owens II and Terry Baylor guide Ja'Quan through the core philosophy behind The Prudent Man Standard — the character-first leadership framework he has built two national organizations around. Every principle in this conversation applies directly to the corporate professional navigating pressure, high-stakes decisions, and the gap between their credentials and their character.

Key Topics Covered

- Why every character defect in your leadership traces back to a root cause deeper than behavior
- The daily self-reflection practice that separates leaders who grow from leaders who plateau
- What the Prudent Man Standard demands — and why excellence is the only floor it accepts
