Welcome to Leadership Sovereignty. I'm your host Terry Baylor along with Ralph Owens. Today we'll address questions such as performance capital versus reputation capital, how to map the company goals and being curious. Explaining the power of I am and confessions and how to tap into the greatest part of you, creativity.
Speaker 2:Enjoy the show. Whether it's whether it's a economic outcome, whether it's a time outcome. Mhmm. Right? So, you know, because you may have a very transactional job right now.
Speaker 2:Right? That's that's what I'm hearing. The transactional work doesn't have as long of a shelf life. Yeah. Go ahead, Ralph.
Speaker 2:I'm sorry.
Speaker 3:No. I just I just wanna comment on what you just said. You have people who will be a transactional worker for fifty years.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 3:Right? If you want to grow in leadership and influence and and obtain the result benefits that come along with that, you have to look beyond what you're doing. And that's what most people don't wanna do. So you have to understand that a business is a system. K?
Speaker 3:It's a system that's owned by somebody, stockholders, right, board of directors, whoever. It's a system that's owned by somebody, and you're in that system. And you have a part to play in that system. Maybe your job is to, you know, make deliveries. Okay?
Speaker 3:That's your that's your job. You're in the system and your part your part in making the system work is to make those deliveries on time. Now you can focus on be becoming the best delivery driver that ever lived. You're gonna make sure all those packages are there, not only on time but early. Right?
Speaker 3:You're gonna be efficient and you're gonna save time. And that's that performance capital. Okay? But what happens when you take the time to talk to, I don't know, the person in the head of accounting and you just wanna find out why do these deliveries make a difference? How does this business really run?
Speaker 3:Like, how does what I do contribute to the business winning and making its goals? I was just having this conversation with one of my cousins. She works in Hilton Americas and, you know, she was like, yeah, I'm really focused on trying to get this done and get that done. I was like, well, me ask you this question. Can you clearly articulate what you do on a daily basis and how it maps to your company's goals?
Speaker 3:If you can't do that in thirty seconds, then you don't clearly understand how your business works. In order to be a leader, one of the first things they they look for and, miss Harris said this exact same thing. One of the things they look for is the person who's curious about how the business works. Now you have some people and we all know them who just wanna do the very bare minimum. They wanna get paid and they wanna raise every single year for not doing any more than what they do.
Speaker 3:You have a choice. You can be that person if you want to. If you want to excel and go up the ladder, you have to become curious about how the business runs. Now is that outside of your job description and job role? Absolutely it is.
Speaker 3:But if you want to be noticed as a leader who's concerned with helping the company achieve its goals, you first have to understand what they are and how you play a part in that. Now you can start to articulate how you can do a thing better in order to help the company win its goals. Now you stand out apart from your peers. So now I'm not just a delivery driver, but I ensure that our customers deliveries are done accurately and efficiently while saving gas, which reduces expenses for the company and helps us to make our, revenue goals. Right?
Speaker 3:But you have to be able to understand how what you do plays a part in that. That's key. That's key for anybody who wants to be able to move up the corporate ladder.
Speaker 2:I think that is amazing. Yeah. I mean, we have to want honestly more, right? And I think again, I'm gonna go back to the head of the conversation where there's an ideology about who you are and about the value that you can bring and what you deliver. And so I'm looking at some books right now.
Speaker 2:This is perfect. This book, actually I'm in my daughter's room right now because she's off at school. And this is a book I got her. And I remember us going through this and this kind of goes back to the head of our conversation. The power of I am.
Speaker 2:We can allow the outside agency to define I am or you can partner with your creator who has a lot of amazing things to say about you that he's deposited in you and you along with his help can redefine and frame your I am. Again, Ralph says something that was it was pretty heavy. Every business is a system. Your work is a system inside of a system.
Speaker 3:Inside
Speaker 2:of a system. The larger system wants to create lever pullers and widget turners.
Speaker 3:Yep.
Speaker 2:Because that's how the system continues to go on and on and on.
Speaker 3:That's right.
Speaker 2:Right? They want to produce as many nine to fivers as they can. And
Speaker 1:then they're trying to define
Speaker 2:who are the best nine to fivers.
Speaker 3:That's right. That's right.
Speaker 2:And the worst nine to fivers. But then there's a much greater system. Right? The system that deals with vision. Right?
Speaker 2:A system that deals with creativity. Understand this man. Understand this. You have been given the greatest power that exists in the universe. It's the same it's the same it's the same power that frame this world.
Speaker 2:Mhmm. Right? It's creativity. Tap into your God given gift of creativity.
Speaker 3:It's good.
Speaker 2:You can can be whatever you wanna be. You can do whatever you wanna do. You know Ralph you know this, I'm a huge Steve Jobs fan. And I remember listening to an interview and it really helped reshape how I thought about things. He said everything that you see today that was created, people no smarter than you did it.
Speaker 2:It's like like, wow. Think about that. All they had was a vision on what it would look like. My homework for you is what is the vision of yourself? What does it look like?
Speaker 2:Write it down. This is who I see myself as being. Write it down.
Speaker 3:I'll add to that and take it a step further. Confess daily who you gonna be. Don't confess who you are today. The Bible says let the weak say I am strong. If where you wanna be is, I don't know, vice president, CEO, whatever.
Speaker 3:Start confessing it today. God thank you that I'm the vice president of this company.
Speaker 2:Amen.
Speaker 3:Thank you that I am the CEO of my own company. And start watching that thing start coming to fruition. Speak those things that that are not that that that are not as though they were.
Speaker 2:Say that one more time, Ralph.
Speaker 3:Speak those things that are not as though they were. He said, let the weak say I'm strong. That person is weak but he said, don't say what you are, say what you wanna be. Come on somebody.
Speaker 2:I'm multi million dollar CEO.
Speaker 3:Come on.
Speaker 2:I'm a multi million dollar CEO.
Speaker 3:Yes. I'm
Speaker 2:telling you. Ralph, man, this is so transformative, man. I really, again, right? I think I say this after every show almost, but man, I just hope the heart of of of where we are coming from is being heard. Mhmm.
Speaker 2:Mhmm. We want to see all of us. And here's been a phenomenon for us in Leadership Sovereignty as initially we set out to really target our brothers. And we are helping our brothers. But to our surprise, we've been helping our sisters.
Speaker 3:Absolutely.
Speaker 2:We thank you. We thank you everyone for the feedback because what we understand, here's what here's what you ultimately learn about leadership. Leadership is a gift that those who follow you give you. You guys are giving us the gift of leadership because there's something that you all are receiving and you're saying, hey, I I want that. I will I will partner with you.
Speaker 2:I will give you inlet into my life. And we are humbled, appreciative, and just man, we we we we receive it with a great level of gratitude and, man high responsibility. So we thank you.
Speaker 3:Absolutely. Absolutely. Absolutely. I don't think you can be said any better than that.
Speaker 2:Hey hey I'm gonna leave with this so we can leave a little light. My mom said, son I really enjoyed you and your friend. She said, we used to say something. You can never be too old to learn but you can be stubborn. So guys, we just thank you that, you guys wanna partner with us and come along this journey because again, like we said, it's helping us too.
Speaker 2:God bless To you
